Workshop #4: Navigating Memory
Our fourth and final poetry workshop was at Grind Coffee Co. in Edinburg, TX. Our guest facilitator was Bianca Alyssa Perez, a RGV native and poet. She is currently an MFA Poetry candidate at Texas State University and is the poetry editor at Porter House Review. Her poetry centers on her Latin culture, spirituality, family, and womanhood. The theme of our final workshop was "Navigating Memory" as we explored our experiences and shared our narratives. Bianca guided us with some writing prompts that allowed attendees to share. We discussed why our memories matter and why they should be shared. Bianca also shared with us her original poetry and gave us tips on the art of Spoken Word Poetry. We were happy to announce our upcoming festival and were excited to have our attendees be the poets that would be performing. This final workshop was sponsored by the UTRGV Center for Mexican American Studies.
