Workshop #1: Navigating Joy
On June 13th, 2021, we hosted our very first poetry workshop in McAllen, Texas at a local coffee shop, Labyrinth B.C.A. The theme was "Navigating Joy". It was a hot, sticky, and sunny RGV Sunday where community members from different regions of the borderlands came together to engage in the art of storytelling. We did not know what to expect as this was an outdoor event during the hottest time of the summer. Would a poetry workshop be enough to bring people out? What happened next was the beginning to a five-month journey and experience none of us would forget.
