Dr. Alvarez has been a faculty member at UTPA/UTRGV for 15 years and worked collectively with a group of Junior Latina faculty members and students to revive the Mexican American Studies program and establish the Center for Mexican American Studies. She has dedicated her entire professional career to ensure Latinx students have access to a linguistically and culturally affirming education. In her free time she enjoys volunteering as a coach in the City of San Juan for her three kids’ various sports teams.
