On Sunday, August 16th, 2020 we sat down with Dieter Cantu, a book advocate, philanthropist, and criminal justice organizer to discuss his work with incarcerated youth. At the age of 15, Cantu was sentenced to a juvenile detention center where he spent four years of his life. He shares with us the importance of books and how they helped save him while he was in jail and were the tool that helped him transform his life after. Cantu is now the Program Manager at Harris County Youth Collective and created a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that makes books and resources available to youth in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
